Helpless But She Has Hope....

It is a story about a lady who hails from  Nadia district in West Bengal, which is around few kilometers from the capital city of Kolkata. The story involves a lady name Devanjana Dhar who was born to a businessman in Nadia in September 1974 and her great grandfather was part of Bengal reform army led by Mastereda Surya Sen.Her father was owner of jute development factory in early 1970s at Nadia which also  generated economy of that particular village.

But during 1983 when whole nation was celebrating cricket world cup victory the factory was shut down due to the politics which was played by West Bengal Government. That not only affected Devanjana’s family but many in that particular village in Nadia. After few year she became homeless as her father was shown notice to vacate his own house as the notice read that the house was illegal. Her father was not able to tolerate this and after few years he died.In order to get some hope Devanjana with her mother  moved to Kolkata(that time Calcutta)  where her mother worked as a sweeper in a school.Thirteen year old devanjna left the school and started working with her mother so that both of them atleast are able to earn food for their stomach. After few years, that is in early 1990s her mother also died.Devanjana was left helpless and hopeless. But she did not gave her hope. She started working as a maid servant  in various house and somehow she managed rupees five hundred in a month.

After few years she married a man who sells fried potato balls(golgappa in hindi and fuchka in Bengali)in the streets of Kolkata. Both husband and wife work hard not in order to earn something for their stomach but for their two daughters-Nilanjana and Niharika who are between 3 to 6 years.

By this story I just want to show how the people are still struggling in 21st century India which is on the verge to become superpower.
